The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) released statistics on Saturday showing that it allocated the highest proportion of its Medical Treatment Assistance Programme funds in August to treat Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) diseases.
The agency spent a total of MVR 16 million last month on medical treatments both domestically and internationally.
Of the total expenditure, MVR 8.5 million was directed towards treatments abroad, while MVR 8.3 million was utilized for healthcare services within Maldivian facilities.
ENT diseases accounted for the largest share of aid last month, with 184 individuals receiving assistance. Following closely were orthopedic treatments, for which 172 people were supported. Additionally, 170 individuals received treatment for cancer during the same period.
Further breakdowns of assistance provided for other diseases include:
Spine/Neurological diseases: 167 people
Respiratory diseases: 158 people
Maternity care: 127 people
Pediatric diseases: 120 people
Urinary tract/Kidney diseases: 112 people
Eye diseases: 108 people
The NSPA also provided assistance for various other conditions, with congenital disorders receiving the least amount of aid last month, supporting 10 individuals.
