The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) disbursed over MVR 17 million last month to support single parents living in poverty.
According to statistical data released by the agency on Sunday, 3,313 single parents are currently receiving financial assistance under this scheme. The total number of children benefiting from this financial aid has reached 5,687. Last month alone, 112 parents and 207 children were newly registered in the program.
The total expenditure for this group exceeded MVR 17 million for the past month.
In addition to this, NSPA also provided financial support for children living in poverty who are being cared for by guardians in the absence of parental support. Under this specific program, 98 guardians and 132 children are recipients of financial aid, with MVR 181,000 disbursed to them last month.
Notably, the government provides up to MVR 12,000 per month to eligible single parents. Specifically, for households with up to four children, the government grants a maximum of MVR 3,000 per child. For each additional child thereafter, an allowance of MVR 1,000 is provided.
