The Maldives Premier Bank (MPB) was officially inaugurated on Monday night.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the bank during a special ceremony held at Barcelo Nasandhura on Monday night. The President also officially launched the bank’s mobile application and internet banking platform during the ceremony.
MPB becomes the ninth licensed bank to commence operations in the Maldives. The bank’s flagship branch, located at H. Sunleet, was officially opened earlier today.
Speaking at the ceremony, MPB’s Chairperson Aisha Noorain Janah described the establishment of the bank as the culmination of extensive and dedicated efforts.
Expressing her gratitude to all those who contributed to the project, Noorain said she hoped the bank would make a significant contribution to the country’s economic development. She described the launch as the beginning of a new chapter and emphasized the bank’s ambition to achieve further progress in the years ahead.
Commemorative plaques were also presented to the bank’s technical partners during the ceremony.
The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) initially granted conditional approval for the establishment of a 'Tier 1' bank on May 19 of last year.
After fulfilling the requirements set by the MMA and completing the necessary changes to the bank’s name and ownership structure, MPB was granted a permanent commercial banking license and an operational permit on May 19 of this year.
