Car driver arrested after hit-an-run leaves elderly man with a broken leg

The police have detained a man who fled after hitting an elderly pedestrian at a zebra crossing in Hulhumale’ with his car.

The accident, which took place near the MPL Tower in Hithigas Magu, Hulhumale’ Phase II, was reported to police at around 09:30 pm on Sunday.

It involved a private car that hit a 63-year-old man who was using a zebra crossing to get to the other side of the road.

Police said the car driver, identified as Khalid Abdulla Ali, 57, Nice, Dhadimagu, Fuvahmulah City, did not stop, but fled the scene.

The accident left the elderly man with a broken leg.

He remains hospitalized at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.

The police reviewed CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and the driver involved in the accident.

Khalid was subsequently arrested under a court warrant on Monday.

The accident is under further investigation by the police.
