A Chinese company has been contracted to build a 15-story accommodation and logistics building at the Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi military base in Male’ City.
The project, described by the Maldivian government as the largest military infrastructure development project in the country’s history, was awarded to China's Rotime Engineering and Technology Corporation (RETC) on Monday.
The contract was signed by Deputy Minister of Defense Fathimath Mizna Ali and RETC’s Managing Director Zhou Weidong.
According to the Defense Ministry, the RETC was awarded a design and construction contract, and is required to complete the project within two years.
However, the Defense Ministry did not disclose the value of the project.
Monday’s signing ceremony was also attended by Defense Minister Hassan Rasheed, Chief of Defense Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Ahmed Giyas, general officers of the military, ministry officials and representatives from RETC.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had announced plans to invest in developing military infrastructure in his annual address earlier this year.
