A delegation of medical specialists from China’s Sichuan Province has visited Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) to participate in a specialized programmed focused on maternal and child health.
The two-day initiative, titled the “Sichuan-Maldives Maternal and Child Health Exchange Program,” was held in Addu City on Sunday and Monday. The program brought together Chinese medical experts, clinical professionals from AEH, and staff from regional health centres as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen healthcare cooperation between the two countries.
The program was officially inaugurated by AEH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmed Adeel Naseer. In his address, he underscored the importance of international knowledge-sharing and collaboration in improving healthcare delivery and advancing clinical practices.
The Chinese delegation included specialists from several prominent medical institutions in Sichuan Province, including West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University, Chengdu Women’s and Children’s Central Hospital, Sichuan Provincial Children’s Hospital, and the Chengdu Maternal and Child Health Association.
The program primarily aims to facilitate the exchange of clinical expertise and strengthen technical capacity in maternal, reproductive, and pediatric healthcare.
Officials from AEH stated that the specialist-led sessions and discussions had provided opportunities to refine treatment protocols and explore advancements in these areas of medicine.
As part of the visit, a special luncheon was hosted with the participation of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Addu City, senior AEH management, and members of the Chinese delegation. According to AEH, the event further strengthened bilateral relations and promoted cooperation between institutions in the two countries.
The exchange program forms part of China’s ongoing efforts to support the development of the Maldives’ healthcare sector. China has previously contributed to these efforts through various initiatives, including healthcare staff training and the provision of medical equipment.
