Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has said that cooperation among regional countries is essential to maintaining international peace and security.
She made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum and the 10th China-South Asia Expo, where she spoke on the theme “Strengthening relations with neighbouring countries and increasing cooperation for the future of all.”
Iruthisham said the world’s current challenges demand dialogue, steady diplomacy and wise foreign policy choices, stressing that regional countries must work together to achieve shared goals.
Speaking on Maldives-China relations, the minister noted that ties between the two countries were elevated to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership following the President’s state visit to China in 2024. She thanked the Government and people of Yunnan Province for their continued warmth toward Maldives and said the country stands ready to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

Concluding her address, Iruthisham said Maldives will continue working with China and other regional partners to promote stability and prosperity in the region.
During the visit, the minister toured the stalls at the 10th China-South Asia Expo, including those featuring Maldivian businesses and products.
She was accompanied by Maldives’ Ambassador to China Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faisal, Director Maryam Bassama Farooq, and Second Secretary Mizna Waheed.
