To mark the 36th anniversary of Sun Siyam Resorts, staff from the Sun Siyam Head Office visited Thalassemia children receiving services from Maldivian Blood Services (MBS) on Thursday.
Since 2015, Sun Siyam Resorts has been conducting blood donation activities in connection with its annual day. Although the event was suspended during the Covid‑19 pandemic, the annual blood donation programme resumed in 2023.
May 8 marks the anniversary of Sun Siyam Resorts, falling on the same day the world observes International Thalassaemia Day. To honour both occasions this year, head office staff visited Thalassaemia children on Thursday and presented gifts.
Sun Siyam Group’s Anniversary Blood Donation Camp Coordinator, Azza Hameed, said the visit was held to launch this year’s blood donation campaign.
She noted that the Group conducts blood donation activities every year to support children who rely on regular transfusions.
Saifa Ibrahim Naseer, an Executive Committee Member of the Maldivian Thalassemia Society, said Sun Siyam Group consistently brings joy to Thalassemia children. She highlighted the challenges families face in securing blood when transfusions become a life‑and‑death necessity.
She added that when hundreds of employees from a major company like Sun Siyam Group donate blood, it ensures easier access to lifesaving transfusions for these children.
Sun Siyam will begin its anniversary blood donation campaign on Saturday at Sun Siyam Olhuveli. Following the launch, the donation camp will be held across all Sun Siyam resorts as part of the Group’s annual nationwide contribution to the blood bank.
Sun Siyam Resorts has built a distinguished record of community service over its three‑decade history, including being one of the Maldives’ largest and most consistent corporate blood donors for the past four years. The Group has also been recognised for its long‑running CSR programmes in health, youth development and environmental sustainability, making it one of the country’s most socially committed hospitality brands.
The founder of Sun Siyam, Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, has been instrumental in shaping and advancing humanitarian efforts in the Maldives. Renowned for his compassion and the respect he shows to everyone in the community, a principle he often underscores in his speeches, Siyam has led initiatives that extend meaningful support to children, families and vulnerable groups across the country.
