South Korean Ambassador Jongmoon Choi met with Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) President and Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed on Thursday, where the two discussed the Maldives’ political situation, development priorities and future economic opportunities.
During the meeting, both sides reflected on the long‑standing ties between Maldives and South Korea, and explored ways to deepen cooperation. They agreed to continue constructive dialogue and work towards further strengthening bilateral relations.
The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including the current political environment, ongoing development projects and areas where Maldives could benefit from expanded economic engagement. Key themes raised at the meeting included economic empowerment, social welfare, regional developments, justice and equality.
Ambassador Choi also outlined the areas in which Korea could support Maldives, and highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation. He commended Siyam for his contributions to national politics and praised his business leadership for its role in strengthening the Maldivian economy.
Ambassador Jongmoon Choi brings more than 40 years of experience in international law, economic security, foreign investment and the assessment of geopolitical and geotechnological risks. After a long career in the South Korean Foreign Ministry, he served as the Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and previously held ambassadorial postings in France and countries concurrently accredited through Sri Lanka, including Maldives.
He currently serves as a Senior Consultant at Yoon & Yang LLC, and has extensive experience in external relations, including Korea, ASEAN cooperation, investment expansion and high‑level international dialogue.
