President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Thursday established the Citizens Complaints Bureau, which will also operate a 24‑hour call center for the public to submit concerns and complaints. The President’s Office said the bureau will be based inside the President’s Office.
The bureau is currently working on administrative arrangements and staff recruitment to begin its operations. According to the President’s Office, the bureau is expected to start functioning in the middle of this year. The office also noted that the bureau has already begun receiving complaints.
The Public Complaints Bureau is mandated to manage public complaints submitted through various platforms via a digital system, obtain information from relevant government agencies, and issue responses, the President’s Office said.
The President announced the establishment of a 24‑hour complaints bureau in his Presidential Statement in February.
He said the bureau would be a key step towards making the government as responsive to the people as possible, noting that an office named the Citizens Complaints Bureau would be opened within the President’s Office to address public concerns around the clock.
The main responsibility of the bureau is to monitor, organize and respond to complaints received through social media, the city and various other sources via a digital system, he said.
The government has launched several initiatives to give the public opportunities to ask questions, including the “Ahaa” forum where ministers are questioned, and the “Raeesge Javaabu” series where questions are sent to the President. However, no activity is currently taking place under these programs.
