Indian women arrested from Velana airport in 2-kilo hashish oil bust

The police on Tuesday announced the arrest of two suspects in connection to an attempt to smuggle over two kilos of hashish oil into the country.

The confirmation of the arrests come a day after Maldives Customs Service announced it foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.17 kilos of hashish oil via the Velana International Airport on April 1.

According to police, Customs apprehended and handed over two Indian women linked to the drugs, who were subsequently arrested by the agency.

The police identified the suspects as:

  • Ulfath Rasool, 23, India
  • Jennifer Paul, 34, India

The police said that they were both remanded in custody of the police for 15 days when presented before a court.

The street value of the drugs seized in the operation is estimated to be MVR 1.7 million.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
