Half-kilo drug seizure in Maafannu leads to arrest and five-day remand

A man has been arrested with half a kilogram of drugs in a case in Male' City.

Abdulla Inaaz, 37, of M. Sandyhollow, Male' City, was arrested under a court order following the search of a house in Maafannu, police said.

According to police, he was arrested in a joint operation conducted by Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence on Thursday, after a tip-off that he was using, possessing and dealing drugs.

Police said suspected drugs were recovered from his residence. The provisional weight of the seized items is 515.11 grams.

Inaaz was produced before the court and remanded in custody for five days.

Police are investigating the case.

Police have seized more than 144 kilograms of drugs and arrested over 1,800 people in anti-drug operations conducted over the past seven months.

Of the 560 cases investigated in the Male' area, 343 cases have been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.
