Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) President and Dh. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has inaugurated a newly built MVR 28 million football stadium in Dh. Hulhudheli, a project he funded personally.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Siyam said sports play a vital role in shaping the future of young people.
“Sports are the greatest weapon to keep our youth away from harm. Sports build good health, good discipline, and the dignity to stand tall in society,” he said.
Siyam described the new stadium as a strong foundation for the island’s youth, adding that he undertook the project out of compassion for the people, regardless of political affiliation.
The stadium was developed at a cost of MVR 28 million, while an additional MVR 10 million was spent on sand extraction for the island’s canal. Siyam said the total investment amounts to roughly MVR 20,000 per resident.
He also highlighted the poor condition of many sports facilities across the Maldives, noting that numerous football grounds have deteriorated due to lack of maintenance. He urged the community to take care of the new stadium and ensure it becomes a long‑term asset.
Siyam said the sports sector needs far greater attention and expressed hope that the new stadium would help produce national‑level players from Hulhudheli.
Following the inauguration, a special football match was held at the new ground, with Siyam himself joining the game. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd, and a lively dance performance by young women from the island added to the celebrations.
