Dr. Ahmed Adeel Naseer, who serves as state minister for education, and entered the ruling party’s primary for the Addu mayoral election before withdrawing his candidacy at the last minute, has replaced Dr. Ibrahim Yasir Ahmed as the CEO of the Addu Equatorial Hospital.
AEH confirmed the appointment on Monday, but did not say when it was made.
Yasir, who previously worked as a physician at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ and at the Medica Hospital, was appointed as the CEO of AEH on March 17, 2024.
He has been replaced by Adeel, who attained his PhD in school management, and worked as the principal of Sharafuddin School from 2014 to 2019.
He later contested as an independent candidate for the South Hithadhoo seat in the 2019 parliamentary elections, and as Maldives National Party (MNP) president Mohamed Nazim’s running mate in the 2023 presidential elections.
He most recently filed his candidacy in the People’s National Congress (PNC) primary for the Addu mayoral race, before dropping out at the last minute.
