Feydhoo School camp food poisoning: Only two students currently hospitalized

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has confirmed that only two students remain admitted for treatment following  suspected food poisoning at the Feydhoo School cadet camp.

An AEH official told Sun that both students currently receiving treatment at the hospital are in stable condition. The official, adding their health has improved, said they are expected to be discharged later today.

Uniformed activities and camps have been taking place across the country since last Saturday. During the Feydhoo School camp, several students developed symptoms including vomiting and diarrhea. According to a parent, the affected students were mainly from grades 7 and 8.

A total of 31 children sought medical treatment at healthcare facilities and hospitals across Addu in connection with the incident, including the Feydhoo Health Centre, Maradhoo Health Centre, and AEH. Most of the students treated at the Feydhoo and Maradhoo Health Centres have since been discharged.

Although AEH has confirmed that the illnesses resulted from food poisoning, the hospital stated that the exact source of the contamination cannot be determined until the results of ongoing tests are received.
