A major housing initiative was launched in Fuvahmulah City on Tuesday, with the foundation stone laid for the construction of 400 three-bedroom units. The ceremony was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as part of his two-day visit to Fuvahmulah and Addu City.

The foundation stone was laid by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdullah Muthalib, joined by parliamentarians representing Fuvahmulah’s constituencies.

The contract for the project has been awarded to Flexinc Pvt Ltd at a cost of MVR 470 million, with a completion timeline of 540 days. The housing units are designed to address the city’s growing demand for residential space, especially as Fuvahmulah’s population exceeds 14,000.

In addition to the housing project, several other development initiatives were inaugurated during the visit:

  • New building for GN Atoll Education Centre

  • Waste Management Centre

  • Police accommodation facility

  • CT scan services launched at Fuvahmulah City Hospital

The housing project is part of the current administration’s broader pledge to expand affordable housing and improve public services across the Maldives. The Ministry of Construction has stated that the initiative aligns with President Muizzu’s commitment to ensure shelter for every citizen.
