Police locate lost suitcase with over MVR 50K in 30 minutes

A suitcase containing MVR 53,000 was recovered within 30 minutes of being reported missing on Monday.

The suitcase, containing the September sales money of a resort staff shop, was reported lost to police on Monday afternoon, the agency said.

Police said that the suitcase with the money was lost when the speedboat from the resort was unloaded at the jetty near the Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal, the agency said.

Police said the case was reported to Henveiru Police Station and CCTV camera footage was examined to find the suitcase. The suitcase was recovered within 30 minutes of the complaint being filed, the agency said.

"The suitcase was found loaded onto another speedboat," the police said.

Police said the money has now been handed over to its owner.

Theft is the most reported crime to police in Maldives, with 2,573 cases reported this year alone.
