Police launch first-ever Blues Re-Training Programme to strengthen modern policing skills

For the first time in Maldives police history, the Blues Re-Training Programme 2026 has been launched.

The programme, organised by the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement’s Centre for Public Safety and Security Studies, began last Saturday in Dh. Vaanee. The five-day training aims to familiarise police officers with the challenges of modern policing and strengthen ethical standards, technical knowledge and operational capabilities.

According to the agency, the initiative is designed to support the development of a responsible, professional and community-oriented police force. The curriculum includes modules on internal ethics, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, operational policing, scenario-based training, case studies, and team building.

The programme also focuses on rapid decision-making in complex situations, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing communication and teamwork.

The first round of the programme targets officers serving in the South Central Police Region, from the ranks of Constable to Sub-Inspector. A total of 98 officers are currently participating.

Across many professional sectors, structured retraining after graduation remains uncommon, even for individuals who have served for more than a decade. As technology and service expectations evolve rapidly, fields such as health, education, and other public‑facing services increasingly require continuous skill upgrades, making initiatives like this police retraining programme a timely and commendable step.
