A young schoolboy sustained injuries on Saturday after he got hit by a speeding motorcycle as he rushed into a road in Thinadhoo City.

The accident took place at the Aabaadhee Hingun road in Thinadhoo at around 6:16 pm Saturday.

CCTV footage shows the young boy, identified by the police as a six-year-old, suddenly running into the road holding a cat.

He was hit by a motorcycle which was speeding along the road, driving from west to east.

Both the young boy and the motorcyclist were seen falling from the impact.

A group of adults on the side of the road are then seen quickly rushing towards the young boy and picking him up.

The boy sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.

Thinadhoo’s deputy mayor Nasrulla Ali, quoting hospital officials, told Sun on Sunday morning that the young boy is not in serious condition.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old man who was driving the motorcycle involved in the accident has been taken into police custody.

A police spokesperson said on Sunday that the motorcyclist did not have a license to drive a motorcycle, and also fled the scene after the accident.

The accident is under further investigation by the police.
