A Maldivian woman has taken legal action against her ex-husband over ongoing harassment, resulting in a court-issued restraining order.
The incident occurred on a northern island of the Maldives. The couple divorced two years ago, but the man has allegedly continued to harass the woman through various means.
According to the woman, her ex-husband repeatedly threatened and harassed her by sending messages via Viber and making calls using fake identities. Frustrated by the persistent abuse, she filed a case in court seeking legal protection.
The case was filed under the Domestic Violence Prevention Act and revealed that the man had engaged in stalking, intimidation, and psychological harassment.
Following the complaint, the court ordered the Maldives Police Service and the Family Protection Authority to intervene and prevent further harassment. The man was also instructed not to cause any trouble or disturbance to the woman going forward.
Although the couple has no children together, the court learned that the woman’s five-year-old child had also been subjected to harassment by the man.
As a result, the court issued a one-year restraining order against the man earlier this month.
