Police confirm Fairish has been found in Male' City after escaping from the Himmafushi facility

Harassment suspect Fairish, who escaped from the National Drug Agency (NDA) Himmafushi rehabilitation facility on Saturday, has now been located in Male' City, police have confirmed.

Police spokesperson Ahmed Shiyam told Sun that Fairish was located on Sunday afternoon following an active search operation launched after his escape. He was taken into custody without incident.

Fairish had been transferred to the Himmafushi facility under a court order, but fled shortly after arrival. His escape sparked public concern due to repeated allegations of harassment and intimidation against a neighborhood, one of whom had filed multiple complaints over the past year and a half.

Police said further procedures are now underway.

Fairish’s escape had intensified scrutiny of institutional handling of public nuisance and harassment cases, with critics highlighting gaps in custodial security and victim protection.
