Statistics from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) reveal a total expenditure exceeding MVR 16 million on medical treatments during August alone.
The NSPA offers crucial financial assistance to individuals encountering challenges in accessing necessary medical treatment, both domestically within the Maldives and internationally. This aid specifically covers costs not encompassed by Aasandha, the public health insurance scheme.
In the preceding month, the NSPA disbursed a total of MVR 16.8 million under its Medical Treatment Assistance Programme, designed to support individuals struggling to obtain medical care.
A breakdown of the expenditures indicate that the largest allocation, MVR 8.5 million, was directed towards overseas treatment, while MVR 8.3 million was utilized for treatment within health facilities in the Maldives.
Beyond its substantial investment in medical treatment support, the NSPA also provides therapeutic services for individuals with disabilities and those undergoing treatment in private hospitals. Agency statistics for the last month show an expenditure exceeding MVR 7 million on various therapies.
