Over 3,000 units of the 4,000 flats designated under the previous government's Gedhoruveriyaa scheme have been completed and their keys transferred, as reported by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) on Tuesday.
Hamdan Shakeel, Managing Director of FDC, informed SSTV that the finishing touches on the flats are currently in progress, with final inspections underway. The corporation aims to finalize all flats and facilitate occupancy by September. Mr. Shakeel further provided statistics on the completed units for which keys have been handed over to the FDC.
Specifically, keys for 1,776 units of the ‘Dhoadhi Udhares’ project have been transferred, while the remaining 224 units are undergoing final inspection. Additionally, keys for 1,522 units of the 'Udhares Project' have been provided to the FDC, with the anticipated delivery of keys for the remaining units by the end of the current month.
"My objective is to ensure that no tenant encounters any issues post-occupancy. Therefore, to ensure the highest standard of unit completion and to convey this to contractors, we will individually notify them of any problems identified during the final inspection, requiring prompt rectification. We assume possession of the unit only upon achieving absolute perfection," stated Hamdan Shakeel, FDC MD.
He affirmed that all aspects of the flat project are proceeding on schedule.
Mr. Shakeel also noted that measures are being implemented to guarantee the safety and security of residents, including the installation of CCTV cameras in all towers and the assignment of a security guard to each tower. Furthermore, daily security patrols will be conducted, with each tower being inspected at least twice within a 24-hour period.
During a press conference held at the President's Office on July 29, Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, Minister of Housing, stated that only 1,000 of the 4,000 flats have been completed to date, with the goal of finishing all flats by September.
Given the current handover of flats, the Fahi Union NGO has formally requested the government to reduce the rent of FDC flats, consistent with the reductions observed in the initial phase of Hiyaa and Vinares flats in Hulhumale.
