Former Managing Director for Maldives Gas Pvt Ltd (Maldive Gas) Abdullah Maumoon, appointed during former President Abdullah Yameen's  tenure, has been sentenced by the Civil Court to pay over MVR 1 million for a Rehendhi flat.

This is the verdict in a lawsuit filed by the Islamic Bank for non-payment of a Rehendhi flat bought by Abdullah Maumoon through the Islamic Bank for MVR 2.25 million during the Yameen administration. The Civil Court issued the sentence last week in absentia, as Abdullah Maumoon failed to appear for the summons.

The civil court ordered Maumoon to pay MVR 1.1 million of the MVR 2.25 million issued by the Islamic Bank as a diminishing musharakah property finance facility plus MVR 7,000 as a charitable penalty.

The court also ruled that the Rehendhi flat bought by Maumoon has been mortgaged to the Islamic Bank until the money is paid.

When Maumoon was sentenced in connection with the civil case, he has previously been charged in seven criminal cases. They are bribery cases related to Maldives Gas transactions.
