Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has revealed that it is currently investigating 16 cases of unauthorized subletting among the 4,000 housing units developed in Hulhumalé Phase 2, while noting that 564 units have failed to maintain regular rent payments.

According to statistics published by FDC on social media on Thursday, the most commonly reported violations involve unauthorized modifications to the housing units. A total of 28 cases concerning structural or interior alterations are currently under investigation, with five owners already fined.

The Corporation is also investigating 16 cases involving the unauthorized subletting of social housing units. Despite prior warnings that subletting without approval would result in disciplinary action, five owners have been fined and two have received formal notices. A further nine cases involving unauthorized leasing remain under investigation.

As of October 21st, FDC had received a total of 49 complaints concerning various violations, including unauthorized modifications to apartments and improper waste disposal. The Corporation identified three cases of illegal waste disposal, resulting in fines for two parties. It also addressed two cases involving non-compliance with official instructions and two complaints related to noise disturbances.

With regard to rent collection, FDC reported that 3,362 units are making their monthly payments regularly. However, the corporation noted that 564 units are currently in arrears.

Non-payment of rent in government-subsidized social housing remains a recurring issue in the Maldives. Authorities have, at times, been observed granting rent waivers or deductions during election periods rather than pursuing stringent enforcement measures.

Amid continued public complaints concerning the Amaan Udhares and Amaan Dhoadhi flats, FDC maintains that it is actively monitoring violations and taking action to enforce established residency and operational guidelines.
