FDC begins installing window stoppers at Fahi flats to boost safety

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has begun installing window stoppers at the Aman towers, also known as the Fahi flats, located in Hulhumale’ Phase II.

The move comes in a bid to strengthen safety and security at the social housing units after two children fell from the towers last week, resulting in a fatality in one case and critical injuries in the other.

FDC’s managing director Hamdhan Shakeel had stated that the corporation was identifying units that house children and persons with disabilities, and was engaged in discussions regarding implementing additional safety measures.

In a video message on X on Wednesday morning, the FDC announced the launch of an initiative to enhance the safety and security of the towers.

The corporation said it was providing assistance to install window stoppers to limit how wide the windows open to four inches.

“Limiting how wide the window opens to four inches will not cause any ventilation issues to anyone living in the Aman towers,” explained an official who appeared on the video.

The installation of window stoppers at the Aman towers by FDC comes as the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) installs window grids and balcony railings at social housing units in Hulhumale’ under its own management.

The measures come after a 16-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after falling from an Amaan Udhares tower on September 31, while a two-year-old girl died after falling from a STELCO flat the very next day.
