Baarah imposes 9 pm curfew on minors, following Vaadhoo’s lead

Following R. Vaadhoo, rising concerns over children’s misconduct in HA. Baarah have prompted the council to impose similar restrictions, including a curfew for minors.

In a statement, the Baarah Council said it has observed school-aged children and those under 18 staying out late at night in beaches, squares, cafés and isolated areas. The council warned that such behaviour can lead to socially harmful consequences and contribute to moral problems within the community.

As a result, school children and minors under 18 are now prohibited from going outside without a parent or guardian after 9 pm, unless for an essential purpose. The rule takes effect immediately.

The Baarah Council also urged civil society organisations, institutions, schools and sports academies on the island to pay close attention to these issues and ensure that activities involving children do not extend beyond the curfew hours.

In its announcement, the council stressed that safeguarding the wellbeing of future generations is a shared responsibility, noting that the proper upbringing of children is central to family stability and nation-building.
