Rescue operation launched as supply vessel with four-man crew capsizes at Kaashidhoo Sea

The police launched a rescue operation on Wednesday after a supply vessel with a four-man crew began taking on water after capsizing at the Kaashidhoo Sea.

According to the police, Sea Line – 3 was travelling from Male’ to a resort in R. Atoll when it sent out a distress call at around 09:57 am.

The vessel capsized after the belt holding the wood it was transporting broke.

The police said that a speedboat from the B. Eydhafushi Police Station – the closest in the vicinity – is at the scene to provide assistance.

Some of the cargo the vessel was carrying has been offloaded to the sea in an attempt to save the boat, said the police.

The police said the vessel had been travelling with a crew of four – three Maldivian and one expatriate – all of them male.

The police said they were taking out the water to stop the vessel from sinking, but provided no additional details regarding the men who were travelling on it.

The incident took place amid a white alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusts of 40 miles per hour for a large part of the Maldives, spanning from HA. Atoll to GDh. Atoll.
