PNC congress: 10 elected to female-designated council seats, Shiuna wins highest votes

The People’s National Congress (PNC) elected members to the 10-female designated seats at the party’s council on Wednesday, on Day 2 of the ruling party’s congress.

1,085 party members voted on the 22 candidates contesting the 10 slots.

The preliminary results released by the party’s elections committee shows Mariyam Shiuna won the highest number of votes, with 931 votes, making for a landslide victory of 88.18 percent.

Election results:

• Mariyam Shiuna: 931 votes (88.18 percent)
• Sherina Abdul Samad: 885 votes (81.57 percent)
• Fathimath Mizna Ali: 881 votes (81.20 percent)
• Mariyam Shamia: 870 votes (80.18 percent)
• Aishath Mohamed: 863 votes (79.54 percent)
• Fathimath Mohamed: 841 votes (78 percent)
• Aminath Namza: 846 votes (77.79 percent)
• Asiyath Reesha Mohamed: 843 votes (77.51 percent)
• Fathimath Rukshana: 837 votes (77.14 percent)
• Aminath Shuhudha: 819 votes (75.48 percent)

The PNC has also designated seats in its council for youths, while another 18 seats are open for all. Over 70 candidates are running for the 18 seats.
