Yameen: If you don’t know how to manage the economy, give way to ‘the lucky ones’ who do

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu should leave office if he does not know to run the country or manage the economy and give way to “the lucky ones” who do, says former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

In an appearance on a program that aired on SanguTV on Friday on occasion of the 18th anniversary of the new constitution, Yameen criticized the incumbent administration’s economic policies.

He said that the speed of the economy is directly linked to how well those in power manage it.

Hitting back at remarks that the infrastructure development the country saw during his administration was mostly due to luck, Yameen said that the economy isn’t something that drives itself “like how the sands shift with the crashing of waves as the seasons change.”

He said that it was the government’s chief responsibility to control demand and study changes to the global market and take preemptive measures.

He said that the president, as the head of the state and the government, must shoulder the entire responsibility of managing economic shocks.

Yameen said that even a student in macroeconomics would have a basic idea on how the state should manage its income and needs.

He accused the incumbent administration of just standing by in hopes of things changing in the future.

Yameen said that if the incumbent administration does not know how to run the country or manage the economy, then it should just give way for “the lucky ones” who do to take charge.
