Local Government Authority (LGA) CEO Mohamed Nimal has decided to contest for the post of Vice President of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).

Nimal made the official announcement in a Facebook post on Thursday.

He said he has decided to contest for the party’s vice-president post for the next five-year term, and in this regard seeks the support of party members and delegates at the upcoming congress. The PNC congress is scheduled for September.

Nimal previously served as a vice‑president of PNC during the period when the party was in opposition for most of the last presidential term. He said that although the government of that time made things difficult, PNC continued its efforts to strengthen its base and ultimately bring the party to power.

“When I served as vice-president, I worked as a team member who listened to everyone. Being able to contribute to bringing the party to power was a great honour for me,” he said.

Nimal said the core responsibility of the deputy is to support President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in his efforts to strengthen the country’s development, independence, stability, and sovereignty.

He added that one of his biggest goals is ensuring President Muizzu’s victory in the 2028 presidential election.
