MNDF: Seven separate fires broke out last week

Seven separate fires broke out across the Maldives last week alone, according to information released by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

Statistics released by the MNDF on Sunday shows the Fire and Rescue Service responded to total 13 incidents during the one-week period from July 5-11.

This includes:

  • Fire incidents: 7
  • Hazmat incidents: 3
  • Rescue incident: 1
  • Medical evacuation: 1
  • Others: 1

11 of the incidents took place in the greater Male’ area.

The greater Male’ area saw multiple fires last week, including one broke out on June 5 at a residential building in the Galolhu district of Male’.

28 people, including children, were taken to hospitals for smoke inhalation.

The fire temporarily displaced 109 people living in 25 different apartments in the building.

Two more fires broke out near simultaneously on Thursday, one at an uninhabited building in Maafannu, and the other at a residential building in Galolhu.

The first fire prompted the evacuation of 10 people living in the building next door, while the second fire temporarily displaced a family of four.
