Four moved to temporary shelter after fire at Henveiru apartment

Temporary shelter and food have been provided to the residents of a Male' City apartment left unliveable after a fire on Saturday night.

The fire broke out in a three-bedroom apartment on the seventh floor of H. Fahivahi.

Police said a police officer on duty at the time sustained a cut to his arm and is being treated at ADK Hospital. The officer’s injuries are not serious, according to Police.

No one else was injured in the incident, the NDMA said. The agency said three women and one man living in the apartment have been provided with temporary shelter and enough food for five days.

Police said smoke affected several floors of the building during the incident, but no lasting damage was caused. NDMA said there is no remaining smoke residue on the floors.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
