Foreigners account for 47 percent of men living in the Maldives, according to statistics released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics on occasion of World Population Day.
The report, publicized by the Statistics Bureau on Saturday, places the projected residential population of the Maldives is 590,079. This includes 394,054 resident Maldivians and 196,024 resident foreigners.
The figures show that one in every three residents in the country is a foreigner.
Of the resident Maldivian population, 200,162 or 51 percent are composed of males, while females account for 193,892 or 49 percent.
The gender disparity is wider with the resident foreigner population.
As such, males account for 174,005 or 89 percent of the total resident foreigner population of 196,024, while females account for 22,019 or 10 percent.
The report shows that among the men living in the Maldives, 47 percent are foreigners.
There are also more foreign men in the working age group living in the country than there are Maldivian men, with foreign men outnumbering Maldivian men across resorts and industrial islands.
