The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India has made it mandatory for all international travelers, including Maldivian nationals, to submit a Self-Declaration Form (SDF) prior to arriving in the country.
Following the directive, the national airline, Maldivian, has urged all passengers traveling to India to complete the SDF before departure in accordance with regulations imposed by the Indian government.
In a statement, Maldivian said the measures were introduced by Indian authorities after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Ebola a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The airline has advised passengers to complete the form before traveling, sharing a QR code for the submission process. Maldivian further stated that travelers will be required to present the completed form at Health and Immigration counters upon arrival in India.

The measure aims to strengthen monitoring of infectious diseases at airports and enable the early detection of potential cases through passenger information. As a result, submission of the form has been made compulsory for all travelers entering India.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Ebola as a public health emergency requiring international attention. In an effort to prevent the possible spread of the virus, India has stepped up screening and surveillance measures at airports and other entry points.
Additionally, the Indian government has advised its citizens against non-essential travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.
Recently, a Ugandan woman in Bangalore, India’s technology hub, was placed under quarantine on suspicion of carrying the Ebola virus. However, India’s Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday that her test results returned negative.
India continues to be a major destination for Maldivians traveling for employment, education, medical treatment, and tourism.
Ebola is a severe viral disease spread through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected individual. Common symptoms include high fever, extreme fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and severe headaches.
