Stormy weather expected to last until at least Friday, says Meteorological Service

The current spell of heavy rain and strong winds unleashed by the Hulhangu Monsoon is expected to last through Thursday, says the Maldives Meteorological Service.

The prediction comes as with a white alert for strong winds in place for a large part of the country – from B. Atoll to Addu City.

An official from the Meteorological Service told Sun on Wednesday that the current spell of rains will begin to clear on Friday.

“This rain will last through tomorrow for the entire country. Its rainy overall across the country,” said the official.

The weather agency expects the weather to begin to clear on Friday.

The Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms will persists nationwide over the next 24 hours.

Winds are expected to blow in the west/northwesterly direction at 15 - 25 miles per hour, with gusts of 45 - 50 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be rough, with saves of 5 – 8 feet.

The weather agency has warned that wave surges are possible during high tides, and has advised caution.
