Former Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Asif.
The Civil Court has ordered Maldives Correctional Service to reinstate former Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Asif, who was fired in July last year after months-long suspension on allegations of corruption.
Asif, who had managed the Prisons Club, was suspended on November 23, 2024, following allegations that MVR 200,000 in the club’s funds were diverted to multiple bank accounts.
He was dismissed on July 20, 2025, after eight months of suspension.
Asif subsequently filed a wrongful termination lawsuit with the Civil Court.
The court has ruled that Asif’s termination was unlawful, and ordered Correctional Service to reinstate him to his former position of ACP, and to pay the salary and allowances he would have been due.
Asif had argued that Correctional Service had failed to conduct a proper investigation or follow the procedures required to ensure fairness before terminating him.
The Civil Court had previously issued an injunction, ordering Correctional Service to refrain from hiring anyone to Asif’s position until the court made its final ruling.
