The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has opened a new front office at the southwest corner of the Hulhumale' Prison compound.

The office was inaugurated on Wednesday by Homeland Minister Ali Ihusaan, in a ceremony attended by Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Sobah, and other senior officials.

MCS stated that the new front office is designed to make public services more accessible and convenient. The institution highlighted that, similar to the MCS headquarters, the facility was constructed through the combined efforts of inmates and MCS officers participating in rehabilitation programmes.

Services available at the new front office include issuing criminal record clearances, handling public phone inquiries, and receiving official correspondence such as emails and counter letters, which will then be forwarded to the relevant sections or divisions. The office will also maintain records and provide information to visitors seeking assistance.

In addition, the front office will accept clothing brought for inmates and detainees on Sundays and Tuesdays, in line with established regulations for receiving such items.
