President Dr Mohamed Muizzu will win the 2028 presidential election by a large margin and become the first president to secure a second term under the current system, Parliamentary Speaker and ruling PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdulla said on Thursday evening.

Referring to the recent council elections, Abdul Raheem told supporters that this is not a moment for PNC members to feel discouraged. “This is the time for PNC members to come out with renewed hope and courage,” he said.

“2028 is the time to renew our determination to win with President Muizzu. This is not the time to be deceived by talk on the streets,” he added.

He said the PNC’s ideology is rooted in peace, unity and development, and that comparisons between former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, the two MDP governments and the current government clearly show the differences.

Speaking about the council election results, Abdul Raheem said the PNC has the courage to accept the people’s decision even when it loses.

“We are not the ones who go to court if we lose. We are the ones who accept and respect the people’s decision. We know how to plan the future according to the people’s pulse and spirit,” he said.

He urged the public to stand with President Muizzu and work towards securing victory in 2028, adding that the country must not be allowed to fall into further chaos.

Describing the PNC as a united, peaceful and strong party, Abdul Raheem said the opposition would attempt to divide it. He advised the opposition not to turn political rivalry into personal hostility.

“Don’t make political rivalry personal jealousy. Political rivals should read constructive criticism. We welcome constructive criticism, but we do not welcome personal challenges. If you challenge personally, we can also challenge back,” he said.

Abdul Raheem said the PNC can learn from the past and build the future of the Maldives, reiterating that President Muizzu will win the next presidential election by a wide margin, earning the love and respect of the people.

“Hopefully, today’s Honourable President, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, will be the first leader to rule under this system for a second term,” he said.
