The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness has appointed two influential and experienced sportsmen, Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey) and Mohamed Hanim, to two important posts.
Mauroof Ahmed has been appointed as Special Advisor to the Minister on Sports Decentralization as part of the government’s efforts to decentralize the sports structure and strengthen the administrative management of sports.
Mauroof is one of the most successful goalkeepers in the history of Maldivian football and has also achieved significant success in coaching and management. After guarding the goal for Victory Sports Club during its golden era, he moved into coaching and went on to win numerous trophies in Maldives.
He has also served as the General Secretary and Technical Director of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).
His main objective in his new position will be to expand sports facilities and tournaments to the atolls and provide technical advice to the Minister to promote sports through a decentralized system.

In addition, Mohamed Hanim, who has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sports, is also highly respected in the field of sports, particularly for his long-standing contribution to athletics.
Hanim was part of the delegation that represented Maldives at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and worked tirelessly to elevate Maldivian athletics during his tenure as the General Secretary of the Athletics Association.
He has previously played an important role in strengthening the management of sports associations and implementing national-level sports policies in various positions within the Ministry of Sports.
Hanim is also the head of the first skating association to introduce skating to Maldives and register it internationally. With Hanim’s experience, the government believes the Office of the Sports Commissioner will be able to regulate sports club associations and carry out administrative duties under the Sports Act more efficiently and effectively than ever before.
