Hussain Shafeeg, who was appointed Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)'s CEO, MD.
Hussain Shafeeq has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), as well as to the positions of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of the state-owned company.
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) said Hussain Shafeeq, Dhafthar No. RS 2861, has been appointed to these roles, effective from Wednesday.
This appointment marks the third leadership change at MPL during the incumbent administration.
Wajeeh Ibrahim, the first individual to hold the position during the current administration, was appointed on November 28, 2023, and removed from office in February of the following year.
Within the same month, Mohamed Rishwan, former CEO of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, was appointed MPL’s CEO and MD.
However, the position became vacant once again this month following Rishwan’s resignation. His departure came amid a broader wave of dismissals and resignations within state-owned enterprises, in the wake of the government’s significant defeat in the recent local council elections and the referendum.
Rishwan formally tendered his resignation on April 6th.
