MPL clears more than 1,800 containers in one week

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) cleared a total of 1,804 containers last week, according to the company’s weekly operational statistics released on Sunday. Most of the consignments consisted of essential food items such as onions, eggs and other perishables.

The data shows that clearance operations at Male' Commercial Port remained fast-paced from Sunday to Saturday. MPL processed 1,453 containers from container vessels and 351 containers from general cargo vessels, amounting to 41,753.59 freight tonnes of cargo. An additional 2,179.98 freight tonnes were cleared from general cargo vessels.

Port traffic remained steady throughout the week, with three container vessels and three general cargo vessels arriving, while four vessels of each category departed after unloading their cargo.

During the period, MPL unloaded 2,028 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) and handled 1,730 TEUs of loaded or empty containers, bringing the week’s total container operations to 3,758 TEUs.

The consignments included key food items required to maintain market stability and ensure adequate stock levels nationwide. MPL reported clearing 15,821 baskets of onions, 15,530 cases of eggs, 4,673 baskets of potatoes, 3,614 cases of tomatoes, and 2,112 cases of bananas, among other perishables.

MPL stated that the weekly figures reflect ongoing efforts to maintain efficient cargo clearance and ensure timely delivery of essential goods across the Maldives.
