Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several regions of the Maldives on Thursday.
According to the weather forecast issued by the Met Office, in effect until 18:00pm today, winds in the northern atolls are expected to originate from the west and northwest. In other regions, winds are likely to come from the southwest and west.
Overall, wind speeds across the country are anticipated to range between five and 15 miles per hour.
The Met Office further indicates that sea conditions throughout the Maldives will be moderately calm, with wave heights expected to range between two and four feet. However, despite generally calm seas, wind speeds may increase during squalls.
As the Maldives is currently experiencing a transitional weather period, authorities continue to urge seafarers to remain vigilant and exercise caution. In light of the forecast for heavy rainfall, particularly in the northern and central atolls, it is essential to take necessary safety precautions while traveling.
Additionally, as heavy rainfall may result in flooding on some islands, members of the public are advised to remain alert and take appropriate precautionary measures.
