Hottest month: Highest temperature recorded in Hanimaadhoo on Monday

As the Maldives enters its warmest period of the year, the Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) reported on Thursday recorded the highest temperature of the month was recorded by HDh. Hanimaadhoo on Monday.

April is historically characterized as a month where there is a significant rise in apparent or “feels like” temperatures across the Maldives.

According to Met Office, the apparent temperature in Hanimaadhoo peaked at 39 degrees celsius on Monday, marking the highest temperature recorded since the start of the month.

Forecasters predict that the feels like temperature will continue to hover around 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with daily peaks expected around 14:00pm in the afternoon.

According to data released by the Met Office, as of 17:00pm Thursday, the highest temperature in Male’ area was recorded at Hulhule’, where apparent temperature stood at 35.5 degrees celsius. Across other regions of the country, apparent temperatures remained consistently above 29 degrees Celsius.

With the onset of this intense heat, utility providers anticipate a corresponding increase in electricity consumption nationwide.

Health authorities have advised the public to exercise extra caution during this period, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. It is essential to remain aware of the risks associated with heat-related illnesses, particularly heat stroke, which can be life-threatening.

To mitigate the effects of the heat and prevent heat stroke, individuals are urged to stay well-hydrated, ensure adequate rest, and avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day.
