Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) handled more than 99 tonnes of sea‑to‑air cargo in February, according to the company’s latest monthly statistics.
A total of 20 TEUs of cargo were processed under the sea‑to‑air model during the month.
A TEU, twenty‑foot equivalent unit, is the global standard used to measure containerised cargo capacity.
MPL said the consignments were transferred to major international airlines operating out of Velana International Airport, including Virgin Atlantic, Etihad, Lufthansa, Swiss, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways.

Sea‑to‑air cargo is a growing segment in the Maldives, allowing goods arriving by sea to be re‑exported quickly by air to Europe and other markets. MPL says the service continues to expand as airlines increase their freight capacity.
