The Ministry of Transport has announced that the registration of damaged or destroyed vehicles will be cancelled starting next month, even if the vehicles have outstanding annual fees or penalties.
In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said many vehicle owners face difficulties when attempting to cancel the registration of motor vehicles that are no longer usable. To ease this burden, the ministry has introduced a relief measure allowing cancellations to proceed regardless of pending dues.
However, owners will still be required to pay all outstanding annual fees and penalties to the state.
The option to request destruction of a vehicle was opened in November last year. Applications for destruction must include a request to cancel the vehicle’s registration.
Authorities note that many vehicles damaged beyond repair are left abandoned on city streets, creating obstacles and safety issues for road users. Efforts are already underway to remove unused vehicles from public roads.
