Work begins on 13-story Hulhumale' parking building that can accommodate 1,300 vehicles

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sunday for a 13-story parking building in Hulhumale’ Phase I that can accommodate up to 1,300 vehicles.

Developed by Batch Construction as a private sector-initiated project, 'NXT by Batch' is being promoted as a state-of-the-art vertical parking and lifestyle destination designed for the future of urban mobility.

Work on the project was initiated by Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen in a ceremony held on Sunday morning, that was attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The 13-story parking building can accommodate 500 two-wheeled vehicles and 800 four-wheeled vehicles, and will be equipped with vehicle elevators, ramps and commercial spaces.

The construction of the building is expected to wrap up in two years.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Ameen said that the parking building will help ease the congestion and lack of parking space in the streets of the Maldivian capital.

 “Work will also begin very soon on six more parking buildings by six local companies that is part this government initiative. A specific percentage of space in these seven parking buildings being developed in Hulhumale’ as part of the government’s plan will be designated for public use and for persons with disabilities,” he said.

Ameen said that once the parking buildings are done, it will ease the roads of Male’ and resolve the challenges in registering vehicles.

According to Ameen, the seven parking buildings will have private and public parking, with three buildings located in Hulhumale’ Phase I, and four in Phase II.
