First Lady: Nation-building is rooted in empowering people to safeguard their own wellbeing

Nation-building is rooted in empowering the people with the intellect and skills they need to safeguard their own wellbeing, says First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

She made the remark in her address at a ceremony held at Maagiri Hotel on Saturday night to mark the 25th anniversary of Clique College.

In her address, Sajidha said that the education system develops students in the areas of health, innovative thought, skills, and aptitude, with the aim of enhancing their capacity for critical thought and effective action.

She said that the system provides instruction in innovation, business, and politics, equipping students to contribute to the nation’s future.

She also emphasized the importance of nurturing a generation of disciplined, resilient, and responsible citizens to secure a prosperous and harmonious future.

Such a generation will drive national productivity and progress, while ensuring peace and protection in every sense, she said.

Commending the consistent incorporation of these principles in both public and private education, Sajidha said that the programs offered at Clique College are capable of cultivating such students.

She acknowledged the contributions of individuals in advancing education in the Maldives, emphasizing that nation-building is the responsibility of all citizens.

Before concluding her address, Sajidha expressed hope that the new generation will value the Dhivehi language and Maldivian culture, while promoting innovation, with integrity.

At Saturday’s ceremony, Sajidha presented the Clique College Scholarship, valued at MVR 100,000, to the recipient.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of long service awards to staff members of the college.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the college, as well as several cabinet ministers.
