Suspect arrested in Addu stabbing; remanded for 30 days

The police have arrested a suspect in a stabbing that took place last week in the southern city of Addu.

The incident took place at around 01:17 am on Wednesday, September 24, when a 34-year-old man was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in the Hithadhoo district of Addu.

The victim sustained two stab wounds in the incident, and was taken to the Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the police announced they have a suspect in custody.

According to police, Ali As’ar, 30, Sunreef, S. Hithadhoo, was arrested under a court warrant on Sunday.

He was remanded in custody of the police for 30 days when brought before a court on Monday.

The police said the victim in the case remains hospitalized at AEH, but is showing signs of recovery.

The case is being investigated under new laws on gang-violence and other dangerous crimes.
