Charges sought against driver in Kadhdhoo accident that killed elderly pedestrian

The police have wrapped up the investigation into a fatal accident that took place in L. Kadhdhoo in August, and asked the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) to file charges against the driver involved.

The accident in question took place on August 15.

Mohamed Nausan, 37, Hoaravilla, L. Fonadhoo, is accused of speeding on his motorcycle and crashing into two pedestrians at a zebra crossing to the Kadhdhoo airport; a 64-year-old woman and her grandchild.

The elderly woman sustained critical injuries in the accident and died at the Gan Regional Hospital.

Nausan was arrested the same day. He was initially remanded for 15 days, but was later ordered to jail pending the outcome of his trial.

In a statement on Monday, the police said they have wrapped up the investigation into the case, and forwarded it to the PGO for charges on Thursday.

The office accepted the case on Sunday, added the police.

The police said that Nausam has does not have a driver’s license and has been repeatedly fined for violating traffic rules.
